A Good Ol’ Beaver that graduated from SR-831, he is otherwise known as “The Beav.” Chris has served as Troop Committee, Assistant Scoutmaster and currently Scoutmaster of Troop #166 at Burks United Methodist Church in Hixson, TN. He has 4 years as an adult Scout volunteer and 12 years as a youth scout. (*not to mention the numerous years he was the troop mascot for his father’s troop in the 1960s!) As a youth his awards included the Arrow of Light, the French Interpreter’s strip, World Conservation Award and 3 palm Eagle Scout with 48 merit badges. He is currently a Brotherhood member in the Order of the Arrow and holds a Masters degree from the University of Scouting(and all the privileges that it entails!) He's taught "Wood Tools Safety" twice for the council's Introduction to Outdoor Leaders Skills course. His troop has seen the majority of its scouts reach First Class rank within a year’s time for the past two years and seen an amazing crop of 8 Eagle scouts within 10 months (with one more currently in the works!)
His love of scouting and outdoors, along with his wit and off-beat humor are the main tools that he employs to help with training and enabling others to become better scouts and scouters.
Why do I want to be a Good Ol’ Staffer? "So that the WoodBadgers of SR-948 can have the same chance to be a kid again. Have the mountain top experience like I had. To gain new friends and to instill that sense of empowerment that comes from teaching and training others so that they in turn can go back to their Packs, Troops and Crews with newfound skills as better leaders and to provide better leadership!”
