John McClain the youngest of three brothers who enjoyed the scouting experience as a youth. His first exposure to Scouts came in 1962 when his daddy became Scoutmaster of Troop 216 in Trussville, Alabama. He became a Cub Scout in 1966 and crossing-over to Boy Scouts in 1968 into his father’s troop where he would remain until 1972 achieving the rank of Life Scout.
His return to scouting came in 2004 when his son joined Cub Scout pack 3003 in Cleveland, Tennessee where he became involved as an assistant Wolf leader, Bear leader, and then two years as Cubmaster. In February 2008 following his son’s Arrow of Light cross-over, he became affiliated with Troop 44 as an Assistant Scoutmaster.
He participated in Wood Badge Course SR-831 in March of 2007 an almighty Buffalo culminating in his Beading Ceremony in March of 2008.
His family has been involved in scouting as well. It includes two uncles that received the Silver Beaver Award; his father who earned a Scoutmaster Key and other awards; and a brother and his brother’s son who both became Eagle Scouts.
