"What's it all about?" Wood Badge for the 21st Century is all about learning new skills, making new friends and having FUN! Cub Scout, Boy Scout and Venturing adult leaders will work together in small groups and develop into a high-performance team. Run by dedicated and well-trained volunteers from The Cherokee Area Council, your staff includes very experienced, very people-focused Scout volunteers with depth of real experiences they can share with you and help make you a more effective volunteer. Your staff follows an outstanding, nationally-developed training syllabus called "Wood Badge for the 21st Century" that teaches outstanding leadership and team-building skills that you can immediately put to use in your Scouting job.
Training Locations Some of your training will be indoors, and some will be outdoors. You'll be grouped with fellow volunteers into Cub Scout Dens and then Boy Scout Patrols. Participants that have been through past courses speak often about the new friends they make in their new patrols, and speak about their Wood Badge experience as a fun, life-changing experience.
What about the staff? A Wood Badge Staff is made up of experienced Scout volunteers who have a demonstrated ability to train their fellow Scouters. All Wood Badge staffers have in-depth experience at the unit level-- Cub Scouting, Boy Scouting and/or Venturing. Most have great Scouting "resumes." We think you'll find that the enthusiasm, the practical experiences of the staff and the depth of work getting ready for the course will make Wood Badge one of the best LIFE experiences you'll ever have.
So what happens during the course? What do we do every day? You'll check in the morning the first day of the course (Friday), and you'll be immediately assigned to a group of fellow participants that you'll continue to be with the entire course. Some work will be classroom, some will be hands on and some will be outdoors.
Wood Badge training is practical training. Every thing we do has a purpose for you, the participant. Every minute of every day is chock full of ideas and opportunities for you to take home and put to good use. Every classroom session with your new friends, every game you play, every assembly. As Baden-Powell, the founder of Scouting said, "Scouting is a game... with a purpose." Whether you're a Cub Scout, Boy Scout or Venturing volunteer, we think you'll find that Wood Badge is stuff you can put to work.
Will we be camping? Sure! You'll be camping with your fellow participants, having flag ceremonies and other meaningful assemblies with your fellow participants and staff that will be stimulating, thought provoking and... you got it: FUN.
