SR-948 Course Information

The Cherokee Area Council is holding its next Wood Badge course, SR-948, in March of 2009.

This course will be conducted at Skymont Reservation in two three-day sessions.  The dates are Friday through Sunday, March 6 – 8, 2009, and Saturday through Monday, March 28 – 30, 2009.  The cost of the course is $225.00, submitted as follows: $50.00 deposit (with acceptance letter); second payment of $100.00 by November 14, 2008; and the balance of $75.00 by January 30, 2009.  The course fee includes all food for both weekends, course materials and supplies, course awards, and course activity shirt and hat.  Limited scholarship assistance is available.  Please contact Karl Hebert at 423-503-7625 if you have any hesitance about attending due to cost or would like to seek an alternate payment schedule.

What are the course prerequisites?

Wood Badge is open to all registered adults who have not previously attended a 21st Century Wood Badge course and have successfully completed the basic training requirements for their primary position. This generally consists of Fast Start, New Leader Essentials, and Position Specific Training.

What does it mean to be trained?

  • Cub Scout leaders are considered trained when they have completed Fast Start, Youth Protection, New Leader Essentials and the Cub Scout Leader Specific training for their position.
  • Scoutmasters and Assistant Scoutmasters are considered trained when they have completed New Leader Essentials, Scoutmaster and Assistant Scoutmaster Leader Specific Training, and Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills.
  • Troop Committee members are considered trained when they have completed New Leader Essentials and the Troop Committee Challenge.
  • Varsity Scout leaders and assistants are considered trained when they have completed New Leader Essentials, Varsity Scout Leader Specific Training, and Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills.
  • Venturing crew Advisors, assistant Advisors, and crew committee members are considered trained when they have completed New Leader Essentials and Venturing Leader Specific Training.

Where can I get trained?

  • Cub Scout Leaders – These courses are being offered on Saturdays by John Ross 11/01, Mission 11/22,   Mountain 10/11, and Ocoee 10/25. You can attend any of these District trainings. Fast Start and Youth Protection Training are also required. BALOO training is not required, but wouldn’t be a bad thing to get under your belt. The course is being offered on Saturday November 15, 2008 at the Council Service Center.
  • Boy Scout Leaders - These courses are being offered on Saturdays by John Ross 11/01, Mission 11/22, Mountain 10/11, and Ocoee 10/25. You can attend any of these District trainings. Outdoor Leader Skills is required for Scoutmasters and Assistant Scoutmasters. This is being offered on Friday November 22 through Sunday November 23, 2008 at Camp Ocoee.
